Celebrating Valentine's Day with Your Family

It is almost Valentine's Day! This month we wanted to share a quick blog post highlighting eight simple ideas to celebrate Valentine's Day with your Family!

Valentine’s Day Cards/Crafts

If you are feeling crafty, making cards with your kids is such a fun way to celebrate Valentine’s day together. Whether you are making cards for each other, grandparents, friends, neighbors etc. this is such a sweet activity to do together and share some love. If doing crafts is not your cup of tea, consider taking your kiddos to the store and letting them pick out cards for Valentine's Day. Special Family Dinner

Consider making a special dinner together at home to share with your kids; you can even have them help you make it (depending on their age and how brave you are feeling 😜). Take some time to sit around the table together to be with the people that you love the most! If Valentine’s is your night off from cooking, grab some takeout or even go out to eat with your kids to celebrate the love that you all share!

Family Movie Night or Game Night

Plan a fun family evening together whether it be watching a cozy movie or playing a game you all love. Planning out time to spend as a family is one of the greatest ways to show love.

Notes/special snacks in their lunches

For the kiddos who are heading to school on Valentine’s Day consider packing them an extra special lunch with their favorite snacks and a note/card to show them your love. This will provide such a sweet surprise for them in the midst of their school day.

Make/Bake Valentine's Treats

Have some fun baking yummy Valentine’s Day cookies or a cake to celebrate in a sweet way. If you need some inspiration check out 36 Valentine’s Day Treats for Kiddos and remember, sugar doesn’t count on Holidays so make sure to lick the bowl 😋

Volunteer/show love to others on Valentine's Day

Take some of those treats you baked and pass them out to neighbors, family, or even at your local firehouse on Valentine’s Day. Write cards to loved ones far away, pass out flowers at a nursing home,  or go grocery shopping and donate to a food drive. There are so many sweet ways to show love and teach kindness to your kids on Valentine’s Day!

Go on a Family Valentine’s Day date

Take the family out for a fun day together! Do some things you all love, take a walk (depending on the weather), go bowling, play mini golf, or let your kids pick some of their favorite things to do.

Jar of Love

Finally check out this sweet and unique activity that we found where you can create a Jar of Love with your family!

“We brainstormed a bunch of simple little activities that celebrate the love we have for those around us (examples below), wrote each one on a little slip of paper, and put all the slips in a jar. Starting at the beginning of February, the kids trade off picking a slip of paper from the jar at breakfast and then we do the activity on the paper they pulled out sometime that day. If we draw out an activity that won’t work that day, we draw out a different activity that might work better. Some days, we don’t quite get to doing the activity we chose and that’s okay – we put it back in the jar for later.

Examples:

-see how many hugs and kisses you can give today

-take a treat to someone

-do a “secret service” for someone in your family

-do something nice for someone outside your family

-read a story about loving and caring for others

-pop some popcorn and watch a fun movie that has a love story (Princess Bride is our favorite)

-make a special Valentine for a school or church teacher

-give a sincere compliment to someone today

-rite a nice note or email to someone you love who you haven’t seen for awhile”
