On Summer Scheduling

(For Nannies)

I want to keep this short and sweet: You don’t need to plan every minute of every day during the Summer

I want you to look at each month as a big picture and plan on a week-to-week basis. Communicate with your bosses about planned events, activities, errands or things they need done. Suggest getting a calendar and putting it somewhere visible where the whole family can see. Fill this in with any planned activities/vacations for each month. This way, you can keep specific days on your radar and the whole family knows what to expect.

From there I suggest each week, starting with Monday, planning your week accordingly around what's already scheduled. Schedule a few days with day trips, outings, etc., and remember to include some down-time or an “at home day” to allow the kids (and yourself) some R&R.

Not everyday needs to be an out of the house adventure. While we want summer to be fun, it’s important to remember to avoid burnout on both ends. Keeping your calendar up to date each week will keep you and your kids focused, prepared, and relaxed.

Don’t forget to take time for YOU, too! Remember to incorporate some of the helpful things we've discussed in previous blogs such as journaling, meditating, walking or yoga. Taking at least 15 minutes to yourself to start or end your day is vital to keeping a positive headspace in a sometimes-hectic career. Enjoy your weekends, do things you love to do, and carve out time to get together with family and friends.

Have a great Summer!
