Rainy Day Activities for the Family
Spring calls for rainy days and that can keep all of us stuck inside looking for things to do. This month we’ve come up with a few fun family activities both at home and around town to keep the boredom away on those rainy days!
Board Games/ Puzzles:
Rainy days are perfect for board games and puzzles! Choose a more active game like twister (even the toddlers can participate) to get the kids up and moving or practice some brain power by putting a puzzle together as a family. Maybe everyone can have a chance to pick their favorite game and play each one together! Depending on how long it rains 😜.
Get Outside:
Yes, even in the rain! It might be a little wet but we can promise memories will be made. Go to a local park, play tag, slide down the wet slide, and swing on the swings in the rain. Or, just head out to your back/front yard and let your littles splash in some puddles! Don’t forget to take hot showers or baths and cozy up under a blanket when all the fun is done!
Garage Play:
Need to really burn some energy? Depending on how organized your garage is you could pull the car(s) out of the garage and let the kids scooter/bike around, make some art with sidewalk chalk or bounce a ball around. Garages can be a great indoor play area when it’s raining!
Aquariums:
The U.S has some great aquariums which can be a perfect family outing for those rainy days.
Check out these top rated aquariums all along the East Coast.
New England Aquarium in Boston, MA
National Aquarium in Baltimore, MD
Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta, GA
The Floridian Aquarium in Tampa, FL
New York Aquarium in Brooklyn, NY
Hide-n-seek:
A classic indoor game that you can play with any age! If this one is a bit played out in your house try mixing it up by playing the opposite version of hide-n-seek, Sardines! In this game one person hides and everyone else counts. Once you say “ready or not” everyone scatters to search for the hidden person! Whenever he/she finds the person hiding they hide with them (pretty tricky in some tight spaces 😜) the last one to find the hidden person is the next one who gets to hide!
Roller Skating/Blading:
Maybe you haven’t gone roller blading in awhile but chances are there’s still a roller rink in your hometown. Why not use a rainy day to try this fun family activity together! If Roller blading/skating isn’t available you can look up an indoor ice rink nearby to try instead.
Indoor Obstacle Course:
This might make the house a bit of a mess, but have you or your kids come up with a fun obstacle course, like the following: hop on one leg across the living room, crawl under the kitchen table, jump from couch cushion to couch cushion, etc. you get the idea! Make it harder or easier depending on your child’s age and you can even time everyone to make it a fun competition.
These are just some of the ideas we had for fun family activities on rainy Spring days. Do you have any other activities that you and your family love to do when you’re stuck inside? Dm us on Instagram, we’d love to hear your ideas!
