Fall Activities for the Family

It is finally Fall! We are ready for the cooler weather and excited to spend time outside. With the weather changing we wanted to share a few of our favorite fun Fall activities for the family! Check them out below:

Corn Maze

Looking for a fun Family outing? How about trying out a corn maze? A great way to be outside, enjoy the fall weather, and get some exercise. Make sure to check how long the maze will take before starting, and bring some water and snacks if it is a lengthy one!

Families in CT you can check out these two family friendly corn mazes:

  1.  Lyman Orchards

  2. Castle Hill Farm

Pumpkin Patch

It can’t really be October without a visit to the pumpkin patch! From pumpkin picking, to climbing on hay bales, pumpkin patches are a ton of fun for the whole family. Look up local pumpkin patches in your area to see what fun activities they offer and make sure to pick up some pumpkins to make jack-o-lanterns!

Here are our favorite CT Pumpkin Patches:

  1. Jones Family Farms

  2. Silvermans Farm

  3. Castle Hill Farm (great for their corn mazes and pumpkin patch!)

Apple picking

One more great Fall outing is heading to an apple orchard. Picking your own apples gives everyone some fresh air and fresh fruit! Plus bring home some apples for some yummy snacks we are sharing later in this post.

Three great apple orchards in Connecticut:

  1. Silvermans Farm (great for their pumpkin patch and their apple orchard!)

  2. Rogers Orchards

  3. Lyman Orchards (great for their corn maze and their apple orchard!)

Time Outside

Rather than going to orchards or corn mazes you can also get outside with the family by taking a walk or hike in your area! Fall is the perfect time to explore, find leaves and enjoy nature in the cooler weather.

Another way to get outside is just by heading out into your own backyard! You can do a backyard camp out complete with tents and sleeping bags or just have a little fire while roasting some yummy smores.

Do you have a lot of leaves falling? There is nothing quite like celebrating Fall than raking and jumping into piles of leaves (parents you can jump in too!).

Leaf Paintings:

Remember all those leaves you raked up outside? Make sure to grab a few for this next craft. All you need is some acrylic paint and white cardstock. The back of the leaves should be generously covered with paint. In order for the veins on the back of the leaf to leave an impression on your paper, press hard onto the cardstock, being sure to rub and press every portion of the leaf. Use as many different shaped leaves and different colors as you want!

Feeling hungry after a long day of Fall fun? Your family definitely needs to try these recipes!

Apple Pie:

Those apples you picked earlier definitely need to be made into some apple pie. Check out this recipe: https://www.blessthismessplease.com/basic-apple-pie-recipe/

Caramel Apples:

If you are looking for something a little bit easier than baking a whole pie you can make caramel apples following these simple directions!

What you need:

  • 6 wooden craft sticks

  • cooking spray

  • 1 (14 ounce) package individually wrapped caramels, unwrapped

  • 2 tablespoons milk

  • Optional Toppings: Chopped nuts (such as walnuts or pecans), Colorful sprinkles, Melted milk or white chocolate, Candy bar pieces (such as Heath Bars or Reese’s Cups), Crushed Oreos, Toasted coconut flakes

Directions:

  • Remove the stem from each apple and press a craft stick into the top. Spray a baking sheet with cooking spray.

  • Place caramels and milk in a microwave-safe bowl; microwave for 2 minutes, stirring once. Set aside to cool briefly.

  • Roll each apple quickly in caramel sauce until well coated. Place on prepared sheet to set (usually about 15-30 min)

  • Enjoy!
